Origin of the Term

Teflon

Teflon is a trademark for a chemical coating, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).  It was first developed in the 1930s to create a non-reactive, non-stick surface. PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a high-tech material with unique properties—extremely low friction, a non-stick surface, and high resistance to temperature and chemicals.

Advantages of Non-Stick Coatings

Lowest coefficient of friction
Prevention of material and product sticking
Easy cleaning and reduced maintenance time
Temperature resistance up to 260°C
High chemical resistance (acids, solvents)
Protection against corrosion and external influences
Protection in acidic environments
Extended service life of parts
Optimization of the production process and reduction of downtime

Applications

Non-stick coatings are widely used in:

  • the food and beverage industry (bakeries, food processing lines)
  • packaging and dosing machinery
  • industrial molds and dies
  • conveyor systems, rollers, and sliding elements
